Why neutrals just work

One of the hardest things for some of my clients is picking out what to wear to shoots with me. Fear not I have made this blog post to help you understand why I always recommend neutrals for my couples + families.

what are neutral tones any way? Neutral tones are earth - colored tones that relate to to natural elements around us. for example sand, charcoal, grass, sky, and water. They can be warm or dark and each can evoke a mood or feeling when mixed with a location.

A benefit of dressing up in a neutral color pallet for a shoot is that it helps create a cohesive look to the overall galley. It also helps make your images feel modern and lux because these are colors that have remained classic. They feel fresh and can blend in with your environments letting its natural beauty sine through but lets you become the main focus for the photo. Another fun reason to wear neutrals is that if we decided to add props for a pop of color your outfit dose not clash with the props or setting we use. Neutral colors also work really well with natural light so if you are having a beach session or A open field they will never fail you!

This saying is super big in design and it’s true when it comes to neutrals in photography “Less is more”. Always the more simple we can keep your outfits the better we don’t want to complicate things with crazy colorful patterns. we always want the images to speak for itself. Now this brings be to my last point Patterns are not bad by any means it just depends what we are documenting I always tell my couples if you want to wear a pattern let it also be neutral and more of a quiet pattern because if its to loud the first thing we notice when we look at the images is the pattern. Now for Creative editorial portraits thats different because it could be a fashion statement.( I’ll save that for another blog about how to use color).
